Koa Back And Sides with a Flame, Curly Maple Top - Three Heart Design SCJ- Jazz Hat #128 This beautiful Tenor Ukulele with Solid Koa Sides and Back and featuring a Flame, Curly Maple Top has rosewood trim including bindings, bridge, fret board and arm bevel. The dual heart shaped side sound port provides sound directly to the player and enhances the overall sound projection. Strung with Worth Brown Low G Fluorocarbon strings it has a warm and mellow tone. The fret board has an inlay and fret markers. The head stock features the three heart design in an inlay. This ukulele offers great projection and easily can be played as a strumming instrument and a finger picking instrument. The sustain is very good and the tones drop off with a smooth decay.

Special "no surprises' note: This ukulele has a 'through the body" string connection at the bridge. Through the body offers several advantages to the more common "tied bridge". It is more modern looking, it is stronger against the high tension of the strings and it produces better sound transfer to the top. However, it is just a tad more difficult to change the strings until you are used to it.

I use a straightened out paper clip with a small hook at the end to 'snag' the strings after I insert them through the top. Then pull the end of the string through the top sound hole. After tying a small bead to the string I pull the string through the bridge until the bead is under the bridge. While this feels a bit strange the first time you do it, it really is not difficult. You can find several Youtube videos on replacing through the bridge strings to give you a better idea of what is involved with changing the strings.
